12-6-17 – The Exponent school newspaper published a biased article about the 11-30-17 hearing. It was very slanted against Sabina. That’s not surprising since the newspaper is screened by the administration. Anyway, here it is: https://uwpexponent.com/news/2017/12/06/burtons-tenure-position-in-question/#photo, Archived here: https://archive.is/c5SMl Also archived here: https://web.archive.org/web/20190301205820/https://uwpexponent.com/news/2017/12/06/burtons-tenure-position-in-question/ It has a timeline attached that is wrong in several ways: (Exponent-article-Timeline-12-6-17).

Note: In this article they quoted Kasieta as saying “Ask yourself, ‘was there a violation of trust there?’ If so, fire her. But what about the law that protects someone in a tenure position? What about the law that provides the first amendment rights? What about the law that is the cornerstone of each and every one of your employments? What about that law?” This was taken completely out of context and twisted 180 degrees around. What he said was I respectfully submit to you, the panel is not fulfilling its legal charge if what you do in your deliberation is follow the chancellor’s instruction to violate the law... ‘Ask yourself, was there a violation of trust here, well, if there was, fire her.’ What about the law that protects someone in a tenured position? What about the law that provides for First Amendment rights? What about the law that is the cornerstone of each and every one of your employment? What about that law? There wasn't a whisper of it.” He was saying that it is illegal for the Chancellor to instruct the panel to “ask yourself, was there a violation of trust here, well if there was, fire her.” The fact that the article makes it seem that Kasieta agreed with Shields when in fact he was making the point that Shields’ instructinons were illegal shows that someone with bias wrote or proof-read this article. Or maybe the student is just stupid. Either way, we should ask for a retraction and correction by the paper. At the right time. Maybe ask Kasieta to write to the newspaper and ask them to correct it by publishing what his comment was really about.

News about sexual harassment (But not Sabina’s case)

CBS this morning.  Feb 1, 2019 - https://www.cbsnews.com/video/sexual-assaults-at-military-academies-spiked-50-percent-in-past-school-year-pentagon/  In this clip they reveal that last year 747 Military Academy Cadets and Midshipmen were sexually assaulted but only 92 reported it and only four were convicted.  Congresswoman Jackie Spear said that she thinks “some heads have to roll.”  Expelling students for sexual harassment might bring about change to the cultural rot.  I agree.  The UW System protects sexual predators and punishes victim advocates.
